Click to become a friend of the Open Door

Your support means so much to so many. The harsh realities of the economic climate has made this the most critical time in the Open Door Shelter’s 34-year history. The shelter currently serves over 500 meals per day to the homeless and poor in our soup kitchen and equal number through our pantry program that provides bagged groceries to families most of whom have young children.

Your donations are urgently needed. You will make a difference in so many people’s lives. Please click below to make a secure online donation, and also consider becoming a friend of the shelter to receive important news and updates. Thank you.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, The Open Door Shelter, Inc. is supported by individual contributions, faith groups, government and foundation grants and corporate sponsorships.

Meal Sponsorship

The Open Door Shelter and the Manna House of Hospitality are open 365 days a year. The Manna House serves three meals a day, every day of the year. This translates to over 50,000 meals served monthly. Because of this need we have developed a Meal Sponsorship Program that enables you to:

  • Provide funding to feed a person or family one meal a day for a year.
  • Sponsor a meal or two every month (or a meal a week) for the entire Manna House of Hospitality.

Individual as well as corporate support is sorely needed. We can also devise a customized program to meet your desired level of commitment. And no matter which sponsorship level you choose, please know that every expression of support is truly appreciated.

Wish List
Most of the families and individuals who come to Open Door Shelter arrive with practically nothing, and depend on community donations for household goods, food, and other necessities. There is a particular need for department store or grocery gift certificates, kitchenware, baby clothes and supplies, and toiletries such as soap, toothpaste, and paper products. Donations can be dropped off at The Open Door Shelter at 4 Merritt Street in South Norwalk. You may drop off donations at any time, however, we encourage donors to avoid making deliveries during the hours of 12:00pm to 2:00pm, as we are preparing and serving lunch during this time. Should this be the only time available to you, we will gladly accept the donation. The shelter appreciates any donation individuals or corporations can make.
