December 21 – Homeless Persons’ Memorial Service

December 21st, the first day of winter and the longest night of the year, has been declared National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day. Open Doors will join with groups across the United States to remember those we’ve lost.

Open Doors will hold a short service at 7:00pm outside the Smilow Life Center to read the names of the clients and former clients who have passed away this year. Please join us in remembrance.

At these events, we remember those who have died and we strengthen our resolve to work for a world where no life is lived or lost in homelessness. We state clearly, together with others in scores of communities across our nation, that no person should die for lack of housing.

Please RSVP to Erin at events@opendoorshelter.org or 203-866-1057 x129.

Open Doors Clothing Center

If you’re in need of a coat, clothing or shoes, please come to Open Doors’ Smilow Life Center, just up the street from Open Doors shelter! We will be distributing clothing from 10am to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays through the end of the year. Everyone is welcome. We would also like to invite you to join us for lunch at Open Doors between 1pm and 2pm.

If you would like to volunteer in the clothing center, your help is greatly appreciated. Just reach out to us here, email info@opendoorshelter.org, or call 203-866-1057. Donations of clothing can also be made at Open Doors any time.
